Description :
Elettaria Cardamomum is a tall herbaceous perennial with branching
sub-terranean root stock, from which a number of upright shoots grow,
bearing elliptical sheathing leaves. The flowers are in panicles, arising from
the base of the shoots. Fruits are trilocular capsules, fusiform to ovoid,
pale-gree.n or yellow containing 15-20 hard brownish black seeds which are
covered by a thin mucilaginous membrane.

Medicinal properties & Chemicals present :

Experiments have shown Cholagogue (Promoting the discharge of bile from
the system) activity of the acetone extract of cardamom seeds, and of the
active principles terpineol and terpenyl acetate.

Volatile oils of Cardamom have smooth muscle relaxant properties which contribute to its carminative (prevents the
formation of gas in the alimentary tract or eases its passing) and antispasmodic (to relieve or prevent spasms) actions.
Contraindication:
With reasonable doses and formulations used no adverse reactions have been reported.
